Right now I’m visiting family, so by the time this post gets on my blog, I’ll already be home. But I wanted to take some time out of the not so busy few days to write.
My father grew up in Gary, Indiana. There’s not much of the town left since the steel industry has been steadily declining, which lifted the city’s economy. The Jackson 5 also came out of Gary, Indiana. When I was little, we had to live with my grandmother for a year or so after a car accident that crippled my family. Other than that, I don’t know much about this place.
If you ever get the chance to visit, you can tell that this city used to be something great. My father’s family talk about this place with so much joy and pride. Right in front of my grandmother’s house, there are these beautiful hills. Not very big, but still gorgeous. Then there’s a little “valley" that’s bordered by some trees. Some of them are blackberry trees. It’s so relaxing. I was playing some golf games with my dad and little brother. Just that 100 yards of green rough is amazing.
My dad showed us the beach, which I always forget. I think it’s actually a lake that separates Gary from Chicago, but still. People looked to be having a good enough time. And on a hot day like today, I wished I had brought my swimsuit.
Just wanted to share a few pictures that I took today while I was outside with Alex, my baby brother. There was a storm yesterday that left a bunch of blackberries on the sidewalk. I’m pretty sure I’ve stained my white shoes, but the blackberries were worth it!
Scarf: vintage; Shirt: American Eagle Outfitters; Shorts: Forever21; Shoes: H&M
I think I’ll have to enlist Alex as my new photographer! He’s pretty good, right? He can be the prodigy fashion photographer that they’ve been searching for. Think of all the ways they could exploit him!
