A Collection of a Lifetime

One of my favorite parts of coming to my Grandma Goldman’s house is seeing her sewing room. She has had this room since I was a little girl, and I’m sure even longer. Can you imagine accumulating fabric and materials over 20+ years?

It’s breathtaking. I always want to take home as much as I can, but since I can’t sew, that would be greedy. Everything in that room should really go to a more worthy person.

She doesn’t sew anymore, unfortunately. I’m sure old age and the many requests of family and friends have made her tired as with anything else. But it’s obvious that she loves fashion a great deal. At the memorial, she was wearing the most gorgeous embroidered golden yellow maxi dress. I don’t know if she made it herself or bought it, but she still knows what looks good.

My dad is probably going to put the things in the room up for auction, which will, hopefully, be sold all together. I don’t know what the starting price will be, but as you can see from the pictures, these are quality fabrics in amazing condition ready to be used by the skilled hand.

My favorite part about walking through the room is just seeing how much variation there is! Slightly different colors, colors in different fabric, different patterns but the same color.

I’m now positive that I have a skirt made by my grandma:

As well as several scarves that I acquired from my parents’ closet.

Do you see that plaid in between the bright yellow fabric and the green? I tried so hard to pull that out. I probably should have tried to get the red plaid too. Unfortunately for me, both were left behind.

There’s just so much there. I really don't want to see any of it go. It's a staple of my visits!
